A Conceptual Model of Burnout in Individual, Family Business, Corporate, and Social/Not-for-Profit Entrepreneurship

Abstract

This paper defines entrepreneurial burnout and explores the phenomenon of burnout in four contexts of entrepreneurship: (1) individual, (2) family, (3) corporate, and (4) social/not-for-profit. A model of entrepreneurial burnout is developed and offered as well as propositions designed to stimulate further research. In addition, implications for entrepreneurs are offered with the objective of providing suggestions to mediate the negative consequences of entrepreneurial burnout.
